On Wednesday, January 28th, 2009 a friend transfered me a find lost child email message from the Huet Family asking for help. Their daughter Cassandra Huet had been missing for two weeks and they were asking us, anyone, to send their message to as many people as possible.
I decided to build a page on my site using the message and the missing child picture I received. I wanted to help this family find their lost child.
Much to my surprise, I eventually discovered that the Cassandra Huet story is a hoax as is clearly explained on a site called HoaxBuster. I then called the police investigation office514 280-2121, explained this find lost child situation and was given a few recommendations.
Resources for Missing Children
Avis de Recherche
The police officer I talked to recommended that we check the following three (3) Web sites to verify if the missing people and child are already listed on the Web or with the police.
The first site to visit to find lost child is called Avis de recherche. I have agreed to become a partner and to post their labels.
The Web site of the Service de Police de la Ville Montréal (SPVM) has a section called Missing Persons. Anyone with information on the whereabouts of any missing people and child is urged to contact the case investigators - 514 393-1133.
The SPVM also supports Info-Crime Montreal, a community organization which has been working in close collaboration with the City of Montreal Police Department, the various media and citizens for over twenty years. All calls are accepted on all kinds of crimes and the information supplied is treated confidentially. To contact them, please dial 514 393-1133.
Sureté du Québec
Missing people and child are also listed in a section called Personnes disparues au Québec on the Web site of the Sureté du Québec.
The site of the Sureté du Québec also advertises Info-Crime Québec. The ICQ is a call station. To contact them, please dial 1 800 711-1800. In Montreal, Info-Crime exists since 1987 and everywhere in the province of Québec since 1996. In United States, the program is known as Crime Stoppers.
If you want to help to find lost child, you can always contact Info-Crime and report a crime. Info-Crime is a non-profit organization directed by an administrative committee and by voluntary citizens whose objective is to prevent crime.
The police officer also mentioned that if a lost child or a missing people and child are not on the Avis de recherche, the Service de Police de la Ville de Montréal or the Sureté du Québec Web sites, it doesn't mean that the missing people and child are not missing. It may mean that, for some reasons, any reason that seemed important, the parents or a member of the family didn't report the disappearance yet or that the police didn't release the information yet.
