The borough shares its borders with the Rivière-des-Prairies as well as with the Montréal-Nord, Villeray-Saint-Michel-Parc-Extension and Saint-Laurent boroughs.
In 2016, 143,853 residents lived in the borough with a variation of only 1% between 2011 and 2016. The density of the population was 8,682 residents per square kilometres and the unemployed rate was 11%.

In spite of the general quality of the environment in Ahuntsic-Cartierville, local elected officials have a few problems to mend and solutions to find.
Among other matters, the quality of the habitat in certain areas needs to be improved, traffic on main roads in industrial sectors needs to be better controlled, air traffic over the territory is a source of disturbance and some of the commercial streets and areas need to be revitalised.
