Some of the following road safety measures are offered by the SPVM - the Service de police de la Ville de Montréal where you will find more important and crucial safety measures.
Children
Children must be secured in properly installed, specially designed seats.
The seats must be adjusted to their height and weight until they are big enough to properly wear seat belts.
Cyclists
Cyclists must comply with the same rules of the road as vehicle drivers, except for the following:
They must always travel on the extreme right-hand side of the road.
They must ride in single file when in groups of two or more.
Drunk Driving
Drunk driving is a serious offense with serious consequences.
The maximum legal alcohol to blood ratio for driving is 0.08%.
Pedestrians
Pedestrians must avoid crossing between two intersections.
They must respect pedestrian signs installed at intersections. If there are none, they must respect the traffic lights.
They must wear reflective clothing in order to be seen clearly if out in the evening or at night.
Radar Devices
Radar detection devices are strictly prohibited and may not be carried or used in automobiles.
Regulations
Drivers are responsible for knowing the regulations before getting behind the wheel.
School Buses
Cars must stop at least five meters from a school bus if its hazard lights are flashing.
It is only possible to pass a school bus when the hazard lights are off, once you have made sure that it can be done safely.
Seat Belts
Seat belts must be worn at all times, by all passengers, in both the back and front seats.
Snow Tires
Taxis and passenger vehicles registered in Quebec must be equipped with tires specifically designed for winter driving.
Traffic Signals
At red and yellow lights, vehicles must stop before the crosswalk, stop line or edge of the intersection.
