Computer Definitions
Computer definitions have evolved a great deal over the years. There's a large difference between the first machine called a computer and the digital computer with "internally stored modifiable programs" that is now sitting in front of us.
A search on “who invented the computer” brings pages after pages on a long computer history timeline. Let's just say that the history of the computer started in Cambridge, England in 1816 with Charles Babbage and that today, in the 21st century, the computer field continues to experience a huge growth with a convenience and an efficiency that keep increasing.
C Generation
Today we are surrounded by the Z generation for some, the C generation for others. Typically, the Z are the children of the X generation and the C is “always clicking”.
Both are called “digital natives” both were born after 1990 and both turn to the Internet naturally and extensively to do a number of things.
They all have mobile phones, constantly send text messages, have Facebook pages, and watch videos on YouTube. Many of their social interactions take place on the Internet where they feel free to express their opinions and attitudes. They have transformed the world as we know it and now drive massive changes in how people work, live and socialize.
My grand-daughter who is now 14 is a true C. Thanks to her father, she has owned various digital devices all her life and is intimately familiar with them.
Computers, the Internet, mobile phones, texting, social networking are all second nature to her. Her ability and her dexterity are quite amazing.
Then again, I was quite happy to discover that I can be a baby boomer AND qualify as part of the C Generation because I am heavily into content creation and social media. Yeah!
