Métro de Montréal & Postes de Quartier
The security officers of the STM Montreal patrol the metro stations every day on foot, with support from the members of the "Police de quartier", the "Unité canine" and the "SPVM groupes d'intervention".
Their mandate includes reducing the frequency of alarming and antisocial behavior and ensuring the peace of mind of all citizens.
Whether security officers are requested to assist sick or injured persons, or help people in difficulty, they are the first line of response. Their powers are like that of police officers.
When security officers enforce by-laws, offenders risk being fined for an amount ranging from $50 to $500, depending on the type of infraction. Officers can also seize any object that can be used as evidence in court.
Furthermore, offenders who refuse to identify themselves can be accused of obstructing an officer while carrying out his duties, a charge that can lead to criminal prosecution.
Never hesitate to ask the security officers for help in emergency situations or if you witness an incident. You can report these situations by using the red telephone in the "Assistance" station on a metro platform, or the "Assistance" intercom aboard metro trains.
You can also speak to a ticket booth staff who will alert security without delay.
