The Sud-Ouest has always been associated with the manufacturing industry.
Today however, its economic activities are a lot more diversified.
The tourism, cultural, multimedia & movie industries are the ones that now prevail.
The district is currently in transition and is confronted with many important challenges.
Its industrial legacy now requires major investments, especially because of its soils in need of decontamination and of its buildings in need of renovations.
With its more than one million square meters of vacant space to develop or redevelop, the territory now offers the highest economical and residential development potential on the island of Montreal.
The sector is one of the first urbanized sector in Montreal and, consequently, most if not all its infrastructures are old and require urgent and expensive repairs.
Last but not least, the massive arrival of new residents creates new local requirements, some of them quite expensive such as arenas, recreation parks or libraries along with other urban facilities or services.
The general opinion that prevails is that all those required modifications, additions and repairs should not and must not bring any negative impact to the population already living in the vicinity.
Thank you for visiting the Sud-Ouest District. More to come soon.
Images Montreal is a huge project that aims to be the biggest exclusive website of Montreal's skyscrapers, historical buildings and architecture landmarks.
Old historical monuments have a lot of interest as much as new apartment buildings, new skyscrapers or graffitis.
Montreal by Metro
Montreal by Metro is an unofficial website for fans of Montreal's metro system.
Our modern rapid transit system is one of the most architecturally distinctive subway systems in the world.
Unlike many other subway networks, every station in Montreal is distinct.
The system is beautifully decorated with hundreds of pieces of public art, including sculptures, frescoes, and stained glass.
