At the beginning of the 20th century, the very residential Village des Rapides was a blue collar neighbourhood established in front of the Rapides de Lachine.
During the 20th century, the Village experienced an important urban development with the arrival of people from the Sud Ouest of Montreal.
Homes dating from the 1930s and 1940s and Gérald, Lacharité and Sénécal Streets form the major part of the area and testify to the vitality of the 1950’s.
In 1984, at the request of its citizens, the neighborhood with its unique character, its popular style and its brick houses became official. The Village is located between the St-Lawrence River, Verdun, the Champlain Boulevard and the Bishop Power Street.
Thank you for visiting the Village. More to come soon.
