The Cote-des-Neiges and Notre-Dame-de-Grace districts are located at the West of the Mount-Royal. The two districts have several characteristics in common.
Both are multi-ethnic, English is spoken by most of the residents and both are mostly composed of people belonging to the middle-class.
Côte-des-Neiges is especially varied ethnically, more so than Notre-Dame-de-Grâce. The ethno-cultural diversity of the territory is, in a sense, a reflection of the Montreal of today.
The district is one of the most populated. The territory is marked by important socio-economic and socio-cultural differences, and by many different languages. CDN is known as "uptown" by some of its residents. The reason could be - we're not sure - that, until the 1940s, a ski hill at the foot of the mountain was used regularly by the Montreal Ski Club.
Côte-des-Neiges Streets
One of the well known streets and metro station is called Côte-Sainte-Catherine. The street acts as a dividing line between the “high” and the “low” Côte-des-Neiges.
The francophones live their everyday life in the Centre and in the East and, in the West, lives a population that is mostly anglophone.
The various ethnic restaurants and shops located on the main streets take you to a tour around the world! Their “ethnic” foods and cuisines are there to satisfy all tastes and at prices that defy competition.
Restaurants and shops are places where people like to meet and to talk. Paradoxally, on a territory once called "the little French village", English is now the prevailing language. The neighbourhood is home to 60 nationalities who speak more than 100 languages and dialects.
Thank you for visiting Côte-des-Neiges. More to come soon.
Images Montreal is a huge project that aims to be the biggest exclusive website of Montreal's skyscrapers, historical buildings and architecture landmarks.
Old historical monuments have a lot of interest as much as new apartment buildings, new skyscrapers or graffitis.
Montreal by Metro
Montreal by Metro is an unofficial website for fans of Montreal's metro system.
Our modern rapid transit system is one of the most architecturally distinctive subway systems in the world.
Unlike many other subway networks, every station in Montreal is distinct.
The system is beautifully decorated with hundreds of pieces of public art, including sculptures, frescoes, and stained glass.
