I recently paid a visit to my friend Peter. Remember Peter, secondhand store finds, the owner of Brocante St-Henri.
I give him a call every now and then and, most of the time, we agree to have dinner together. We always meet evenings, Thursdays or a Fridays.
He buys the pizza, I buy the wine. I usually arrive about an hour before he closes his secondhand shop. We exchange a little and, while he looks after his customers I browse around and see if I can find anything I like. I always do!
Around 6:30 or 7:00 pm it's pizza time. We go to the back store, fix a table and chairs, get the glasses, the knives and the forks, reheat the pizza, open the bottle of wine and relax. Last time I went I had my camera with me and took pictures of of some of his secondhand store finds we both liked. Two oak chairs, one lamp and three oil paintings.
my grand-father on my mother's side was an accountant and had a chair just like that. He also had an old Remington typewriter he let me play with. Both chairs are slightly used. If you like them, call Peter and ask him for the details.
The lamp, supported by a golden metal base, is made out of enamelled glass ornamented with golden round textured patterns mixed with black and white specks. The lampshade is in a dark green colour adorned with two golden rims.
This green lamp is 4 feet high and quite impressive. Its design of oriental influence conveys a comfortable and exotic effect. For I don't know how much - ask Peter - you could easily turn this smart looking secondhand lamp into a chic accessory in your home.
Antique Oil Paintings for Sale
This oil painting is 38" wide x 27" high including the wooden frame. it dates back to the beginning of the 20th century, but has not been signed, or so it seems.
Flower paintings were quite popular between the 17th and the 19th centuries. Flower paintings symbolized the romantic notion that the delights of this world are fragile and momentary.
Out of the three, this oil painting is my favourite and, as far as I am concerned, it's a secondhand store find quite worth buying. I eventually will if you don't. Peter doesn't like it as much as I do and he doesn't mind selling it. The painting is 39" high x 25 1/2" wide including the dark wooden frame. It is signed LARRAY.
Peter likes this oil painting even if he finds it a bit weird. He is now ready to depart from it. Personally, it's not my favourite. He bought it from a Montreal couple and the painting was in their bedroom.
