Montreal Districts

Sainte-Genevieve

The Sainte-Genevieve district populated by traditional Quebec-style dwellings and colonial mansions offers a look that is a lot more rural than urban. The vicinity overlooks the Rivière des Prairies and the Île Bizard. Both districts of the borough are connected by the Jacques-Bizard Bridge.

Definition of Population

The peaceful life, the green areas and the downtown centre are powerful attractions for newcomers, especially families with young children.

Actually, the increase of the youth population now intensifies the necessity to offer services specially dedicated to young people like social, cultural and sports activities, along with proper public transportation.

Types of Institutions

Collège Gérald Godin

The neighborhood is known for its old Pères Sainte-Croix noviciate that now house the Collège Gérald Godin, the only French speaking college on the West Island of Montréal.

The College also benefits from an enchanting site on the shores of the Rivière-des-Prairies.

Within the College lies the Centre des arts de la scène Pauline Julien known as the Salle Pauline Julien. The hall is dedicated to the presentation of productions by well known Québec artists. Pauline Julien, one of our famous Québec artists, was a singer known for her expressive power and sensitivity.

Also on the territory, the Église Sainte Geneviève built in 1844 and designed by Quebec architect Thomas Baillargé (1792-1859). Three paintings located behind the high altar depict Sainte Geneviève. They have been created by Ozias Leduc a renowned Quebec painter. A Prix Thomas Baillargé has been created by the Ordre des architectes du Québec in 1983.
