The Golden Square Mile is the old residential neighborhood of the English Canadian upper class.
The area is located at the foot of Mount-Royal in the west-central section of Downtown Montreal.
Some say it is bounded by Atwater, Bleury, de la Gauchetière and the Mount-Royal, others list more precise borders. What remains is that the neighbourhood once had specific borders that measured roughly one square mile.
Since the early 20th century, the streets lined with sumptuous Victorian houses have gradually given way to Montreal's contemporary business centre. Only a few houses from this old era remain, most of which are clustered north of Sherbrooke, its luxurious main street.
Today, the tradition of fine living, high standards of services and refine surroundings has been carried through time by Montrealers still calling the neighborhood their home, and by the 5 star hotels in Montreal established in the vicinity.
Thank you for visiting Golden-Square-Mile. More to come soon.
